California State University Launches Systemwide ChatGPT Edu Deployment

By  Rhea Kelly 02/05/25 In the largest deployment of ChatGPT to date,  California State University  is rolling out  ChatGPT Edu , OpenAI's generative AI product designed for education institutions, to more than 460,000 students and 63,000-plus staff and faculty across the system's 23 campuses. While other universities have similarly embraced ChatGPT in an enterprise-wide manner (most notably,  Arizona State University  in its groundbreaking partnership with OpenAI last year), CSU is the first university in the United States to take the deployment systemwide and marks the largest implementation of ChatGPT by any single organization or company anywhere in the world, OpenAI said in a news announcement.   Anew report by S&P Global Ratings has explored the transformative impact artificial intelligence (AI) may have on the education sector, noting both potential benefits and challenges. The study suggests that AI could significantly change the educational landscape by impacting skill development, teaching methodologies, and student learning processes. Miriam Fernandez, AI Director at S&P Global Ratings, emphasized the necessity for governments, policymakers, and educational institutions to invest and adapt to these emerging paradigms. "Governments, policymakers, and institutions will need to invest and adapt to new paradigms to secure the potential benefits offered by AI's integration into education," stated Fernandez.
