A Step-by-Step Guide: Reporting a Lost or Stolen Mobile Phone in Nepal
Losing your mobile phone, whether it's misplaced or stolen, can be a very stressful experience. It contains our personal data, contacts, and precious memories. Fortunately, the Nepal Telecommunication Authority (NTA) provides an official channel to report your device, which can aid in tracking it.
This guide provides a clear, step-by-step process for filing a report.
An Important Prerequisite: For this process to work, your mobile phone must be registered in the NTA's Mobile Device Management System (MDMS).
Step 1: Access the NTA Portal
Using a computer, laptop, or another mobile phone, open a web browser and navigate to the official website of the Nepal Telecommunication Authority: nta.gov.np.
Step 2: Locate the IMEI Tracking System
Once the NTA website is open, find and click on the link for "IMEI/Mobile Track Registration".
Step 3: Fill Out the Device Information Form
A form will appear asking for details about your lost or stolen phone. Fill in the following fields accurately:
IMEI No.: The unique 15-digit number for your phone.
Mobile Number: The phone number of the SIM card that was in the device.
Brand: The manufacturer of your phone (e.g., Samsung, Apple, Xiaomi).
Model: The specific model of your phone (e.g., Galaxy S23, iPhone 15).
Lost/Stolen: Select the appropriate status from the options.
Lost Date: The date when you lost the phone.
Lost Place: The location where the phone went missing.
Nationality: Select "Nepal".
After entering all the details, click the "Validate IMEI and Continue" button.
Step 4: Verify Your Email Address
You will be asked to enter your email address.
Type your Gmail ID into the email field and click "Request OTP".
Check your Gmail inbox for an email containing an OTP (One-Time Password) or Verification Code.
Enter this code into the designated field on the form.
Click "Validate IMEI and Continue" again.
Step 5: Provide Applicant's Details
The next section requires your personal information. You will need to provide:
Applicant's Name: Your full name.
Contact Number: A number where you can be reached.
Address: Your current address.
Citizenship Number: Your national identification number.
Citizenship Issuing District: The district where your citizenship card was issued.
Upload Identity Document: You must upload a clear photo of your identity document (like your citizenship card). Please note that the file size must be less than 250 KB.
Once completed, click "Next".
Step 6: Review and Submit
Before finalizing, a summary of your report will be displayed. Please review all the information one last time to ensure it is correct. If everything is accurate, click on "Submit Form" to complete the "Lost Stolen Registration" process.
What Happens Next?
After you have successfully filed the report, keep an eye on the Gmail account you provided. If a different SIM card is used in your lost phone, the NTA system will detect it and send you an official letter via email. You should take a copy of this letter to your nearest police office to file a formal complaint and assist them in their investigation.
