What is Prompt Engineering? How to Acquire Expertise?

Image
Significant discourse surrounds artificial intelligence (AI) presently. Concurrent with AI's advancement, concerns arise regarding potential job displacement. However, AI's evolution will not merely eliminate roles; it will also generate new employment opportunities. Prompt engineering exemplifies this phenomenon. Emerging within the domain of AI, distinct from conventional fields, prompt engineering operates through natural language processing. It encompasses the specifications for AI tasks. Success requires selecting precise vocabulary, paragraphs, syntax, and formatting to elicit accurate and relevant responses from the AI. A prompt engineer designs prompts to optimize AI's output, thereby refining the machine's ability to deliver results. Prompt engineering is integral to AI efficacy. Prompt engineering also enhances Large Language Model (LLM) capabilities by addressing challenges ranging from rudimentary to complex. Consequently, the formulation of prompts to direc...

Understanding Windows 11’s "Compress to ZIP File" Feature

Introduction Windows 11 includes a built-in "Compress to ZIP file" feature in File Explorer, allowing users to create ZIP archives effortlessly. However, some users may notice that their ZIP files appear as "WinRAR ZIP Archive" instead of just ZIP. This blog clarifies why that happens and whether you need third-party software like WinRAR. Why Does Windows Show "WinRAR ZIP Archive"? When you install WinRAR , it associates itself with ZIP files by default. This means that even though the file format is still .zip , the icon and description may show "WinRAR ZIP Archive." However, the file remains a standard ZIP file that can be opened without WinRAR. Is WinRAR Required to Open These ZIP Files? No, WinRAR is not required. Since the .zip format is natively supported in Windows, ChromeOS, and Google Drive, you can open, extract, and manage ZIP files without third-party apps. How to Restore Windows' Default ZIP File Handler If you want ZIP file...

California State University Launches Systemwide ChatGPT Edu Deployment

By  Rhea Kelly 02/05/25 In the largest deployment of ChatGPT to date,  California State University  is rolling out  ChatGPT Edu , OpenAI's generative AI product designed for education institutions, to more than 460,000 students and 63,000-plus staff and faculty across the system's 23 campuses. While other universities have similarly embraced ChatGPT in an enterprise-wide manner (most notably,  Arizona State University  in its groundbreaking partnership with OpenAI last year), CSU is the first university in the United States to take the deployment systemwide and marks the largest implementation of ChatGPT by any single organization or company anywhere in the world, OpenAI said in a news announcement. The move is part of a larger public-private initiative to become an "AI-powered university system" in partnership with a number of tech companies, including OpenAI, Adobe, Google, AWS, IBM, Intel, Microsoft, NVIDIA, Instructure, LinkedIn, and others. AI's impact on education: benefits & challenges ahead

Anew report by S&P Global Ratings has explored the transformative impact artificial intelligence (AI) may have on the education sector, noting both potential benefits and challenges. The study suggests that AI could significantly change the educational landscape by impacting skill development, teaching methodologies, and student learning processes. Miriam Fernandez, AI Director at S&P Global Ratings, emphasized the necessity for governments, policymakers, and educational institutions to invest and adapt to these emerging paradigms. "Governments, policymakers, and institutions will need to invest and adapt to new paradigms to secure the potential benefits offered by AI's integration into education," stated Fernandez. She noted that these benefits could include enhanced educational methods and outcomes, improved accessibility, and reduced costs. However, Fernandez also acknowledged that constraints such as cultural resistance, funding shortages, and regulatory fra...

Academic Integrity in the Era of AI

The higher education sector continues to grapple with the advent of generative artificial intelligence (genAI), with much of the concern focused on ethical issues   around student misconduct . GenAI models such as ChatGPT offer students untraceable and economic means of churning out answers and term papers on any given subject. For many instructors, this means  traditional forms of course evaluation are now ineffective . The question that faculty and administration across the sector are asking is: how can we effectively assess and evaluate student competence on a given subject? An equally significant question that needs to be asked — but remains relatively absent in current discussion — is the following: what existing conditions in higher education are shaping the scale and nature of the impact of genAI on learning? As I argue in a  recent article in the Journal of Interactive Technology and Pedagogy , widespread use of genAI  among students needs to be unders...
